Nashville Mayor Karl Dean wants to kickstart construction of a floodwall system to protect downtown before leaving office. But the next mayor will be the one to see it through, and not all the candidates are totally supportive.
One mayoral hopeful even opposes the project...
The project still needs approval from the Metro Council, which should occur in June along with approval of the city's capital budget. So councilmember Megan Barry will get a say, whether or not she becomes mayor.
“You’re not hearing a yes, but you’re not hearing a no either," she says. "Ultimately, I want to understand in more detail what the actual plan looks like. $100 million is a lot of money.”
