1st Same-Sex Couple Marries in Nashville

The first same sex couples married in Nashville just a few hours ago. The first wedding was scheduled for 11am but software glitches held up the process until 1pm. The state's marriages licenses had to be changed from bride and groom to applicant 1 and 2. Lauren Mesnard and Nikki came to the county clerk's office to get married when they were swarmed by the media. They're among the first same sex couple to marry in Davidson County after the Supreme Court struck down the ban on gay marriage in 14 states including Tennessee. Wendy Howe lost her job after announcing that she and her partner were having a baby. Today, their daughter saw them get married. Mayoral candidate and Metro Council member Megan Barry officiated the first ceremonies.
